Physicians' Views of Retirement Migrants' Impact on Rural Medical Practice

Abstract
In two rural counties which have attracted retirement migrants, 126 physicians have perceived changes in the health care system. The presence of a post-retirement group was an important factor to those who recently set up practices. A majority reported an increase in elderly patient load, but continue to accept new elderly patients. The number and type of specialists in the counties has increased and many physicians believe there is a need for more generalists and various specialists.
