Abstract
The anatomy of the nervous system of the corn earworm moth, Heliothis zea (Boddie), is described. The protocerebrum, deutocerebrum, and tritocerebrum and the connecting nerves are illustrated. Two pairs of nerves arise from the suboesophageal ganglion, which lies beneath the brain. The thorax contains the prothoracic and pterothoracic ganglia, and these ganglia divide into several branches. The pterothoracic ganglion consists of a metothoracic and a metathoracic ganglion. Three pairs of nerves arise from the mesothoracic ganglion, and 2 pairs from the metathoracic ganglion. The abdomen contains 4 ganglia. Two pairs of lateral intestinal nerves, 2 pairs of ventral reproductive nerves, and 7 abdominal nerves arise from the last abdominal ganglion. The middle nerve of the fourth abdominal ganglion branches into many nerves in the genital region.This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
