Electric‐Field‐Induced Spectral Shifts of the OH Vibrational Absorption Line in Alcohols

Abstract
It is shown that the electric‐field‐induced spectral shifts in the vibrational lines of polar molecules can be easily observed. Although the effect has been observed for many different alcohols, we report here only the data associated with 2,6 di‐isopropyl phenol for its fundamental and overtone lines. It is also observed that the amount of association of the alcohols is affected by the electric field.
