Abstract
The structures of phases related to the B4C‐type structure are described and discussed. Four variants of this structure can be distinguished, namely the structures of α‐rh.B (no atom in the central hole), B4C (three‐atom chain), B6P (phosphorous pairs) and B6O (two oxygen atoms at large distance from each other). It is found that ‘‘B12Be’’ is likely to crystallize in the B6O‐type structure and has a composition not far from B6Be. It is found that silicon and carbon can dissolve substitutionally in phases, crystallizing in the B4C‐type structure and variants, while aluminium is more likely to be accommodated in the holes of the structure. Positions and sizes of several such holes are reported. Keywords
