Abstract
Elongation induced in apical sunflower fragments by IAA (0.1 [mu]g./ml) applied to apical end of fragment was completely suppressed by 1.0 /x[mu]g./ml kinetin, partly suppressed by 0.1 and 0.01 /[mu]g./ml. In the absence of IAA, 1.0 [mu]g./ml kinetin suppressed elongation of such fragments on sucrose mineral agar. The increase in fresh and dry weights in apical fragments induced by 1.0 [mu]g./ml. IAA was not significantly changed by kinetin at 1.0, 0.1 or 0.01 [mu]g-/nil; 1.0 and 0.1 /[mu]g./ml kinetin produced an increase in fresh and dry weights which was half that produced by 1.0 /[mu]g./ml. IAA. The initiation of adventitious roots induced by 0.1 [mu]g./ml. IAA on basal fragments was inhibited completely by 1.0 /[mu]g./ml kinetin, partially by 0.1 /[mu]g./ml; kinetin did not induce initiation of adventitious roots in the absence of auxin. Keywords
