Abstract
Because of their daily interactions with young children, teachers and child care workers play a central role in the prevention, identification, and treatment of child abuse and neglect. In most states in the United States, teachers or other school personnel are legally mandated to report any suspected cases of abuse and neglect. This article provides a brief summary of the role and responsibility of the teacher in the prevention and identification process. Keywords
