Abstract
The study of 468 cases of cutaneous anthrax admitted to the Firoozabadi Hospital, Iran, during the 13 yr show that 59.83% of cases were male and 40.17% female. Of the patients, 42.93% were below the age 30 yr. Based on occupational background, 27.86% were industrial workers. Of cases, 20.73% were contracted through contact with sick animals, while 74.24% had a history of contacts with animal products and 5% were infected due to the use of spidab. All patients were treated by penicillin or other antibiotics. Cases (78) having massive edema were additionally treated with cortisone. The death rate was slightly higher in females than in males.
