Abstract
We present here a phenomenological model calculation that exhibits the realistic qualitative behavior of multiphonon excitation and dissociation of polyatomic molecules. It is also used to show that at least theoretically multiphonon excitation of molecules is not equivalent to thermal heating. Keywords
