A Study of Industrial Mists Containing Sulphuric Acid

Abstract
Industrial processes which use sulphuric acid solutions produce acid mists, gaseous sulphur dioxide and, in some cases, particulate sulphates as airborne contaminants. Environmental monitoring of these pollutants has been carried out in five industrial departments. Measurements of the concentration of the acid mists and of sulphur dioxide are presented and discussed. Possible modes of formation of industrial acid mists are examined. The hazard to health of workers exposed to these mists is briefly discussed, with particular reference to tooth discolouration and erosion.
