Abstract
The eosinophils of heparinized venous blood were counted in the chamber. Epinephrine HC1, 0.5 cc 1:1000 subcut., produced an avg. change of -56% in 2.5-3 hrs. in 20 patients. Insulin, 0.1 unit/kg, intraven., produced an avg. change of -57.5% in 4 hrs. in 12 patients. These changes were diminished or absent in patients with adrenal or pituitary insufficiency, and in patients with severe ulcerative colitis. Effect of insulin was exaggerated in patients with essential hypertension. Following surgical operations, the average change in eosinophils was -90% after 3-8 hrs. in 14 patients. Another patient, with chronic ulcera- tive colitis, showed a 400% rise. Keywords
