Abstract
In discussing lesions of the biliary tract I should like to direct attention to some of the developments which have occurred in this field in the past year or two. Concerning advances in the surgical treatment of diseases of the biliary tract, I shall discuss, first, cholecystitis; second, errors in the diagnosis of cholecystic disease, and, third, symptoms persisting after operations on the biliary tract. CHOLECYSTITIS For the past five years there has been a gradual trend toward early operation in cases of acute cholecystitis. This subject was discussed fully at a meeting of the American Surgical Association in 1933, and, although it was generally recognized that each case presents an individual problem, most of those present agreed that as a rule early operation gave the most satisfactory results.
