Abstract
The laminar boundary‐layer behavior on a moving continuous flat surface is investigated by two methods. One method involves the numerical solution of the boundary‐layer equations. The other is an integral method, based on an assumed velocity profile that satisfies the appropriate boundary conditions. Good agreement is obtained between the results of these two methods of solution. The turbulent boundary‐layer behavior on a moving continuous flat surface is investigated by the integral method only. Equations for the boundary‐layer thickness, displacement thickness, momentum thickness, and skin friction are presented for both laminar and turbulent boundary layers. Comparison is made with the boundary‐layer behavior over a flat plate of finite length.Keywords
