Abstract
Summary: A classification scheme is proposed to organize existing research and set directions for future studies and theory development in nursing. Orem's self‐care approach to nursing forms the basis of the scheme, with the recommendation to study the phenomena of the field through a constructivist methodology. Scholars, theorists, and researchers are invited to participate in examination and use of the scheme from a variety of perspectives. Keywords
