Abstract
The thermodynamics of multicomponent gas adsorption is developed by using surface excess variables, which constitute the true experimental properties for measurement of adsorption. It is shown that the thermodynamic properties of practical use such as the surface potential, the isosteric heats of adsorption and the heat capacity of the adsorption system can be expressed and evaluated using experimental surface excess data. New methods for estimating isosteric heats of adsorption from multicomponent gases and several new thermodynamic consistency tests are described. Keywords
