Abstract
A neutron diffraction study of lithium thallium tartrate (LTT) has been carried out. The structure is isomorphous with lithium ammonium tartrate (LAT).4 The tartrate ion takes on a conformation similar to that in Rochelle salt. The lithium is in five-fold pyramidal coordination. The two thallium ions are surrounded by eight and 10 oxygen atoms at average distances of 3.02 and 3.14 Å respectively. Only water and one hydroxyl form intermolecular hydrogen bonds linking groups in the a and c direction. Keywords
