Abstract
Mumps was reported to be a cause of hearing loss in 259 persons from a sample of 43,946 students enrolled in special educational programs for the hearing impaired. Males and young children appear to be more prone to deafening by mumps, and there may be a relationship between age of onset and degree of hearing loss. Overall, those deafened by mumps appear to have characteristics quite different from those of children deafened by other causes. Keywords
