Irregular Meiosis Associated with Pollen Sterility in Vetiveria zizanioides (Linn.) Nash

Abstract
The pollen and seed fertility of 75 clones of Vetiveria zizanioldes collected from different parts of India was examined for the purpose of providing a basis for the improvement of this essential oil plant. Some clones were highly pollen sterile. A preliminary examination of 4 clones differing in fertility indicated that univalent formation at diakinesis and metaphase, combined with lagging at anaphase followed by the production of micronuclei, were closely correlated with the observed sterility.
