An experimental study of the glacier boundary layer over melting ice

Abstract
The results of an experiment to examine the glacier boundary layer over melting ice are described. They show that the boundary layer, as defined by the applicability of the log—linear profile, is approximately 1 m thick. The boundary layer is a frequent, but not a dominant feature of the air close to the ice. The frequency of occurrence is relatively high in cases where wind speeds are mainly controlled by katabatic forces.
