High-Velocity Flow in Open Channels: A Symposium: Design of Channel Expansion

Abstract
Following an introductory discussion of supercritical flow in divergent channels, the matter of channel design is discussed under three sequent headings: (1) Surface configuration at abrupt expansions; (2) efficient curvature of expanding boundaries; and (3) elimination of disturbances at the end of transitions. The extent of the agreement between elementary wave theory and experimental measurement is shown, and the results are presented in the form of generalized diagrams convenient for rapid exploration and prelim, inary design.
