Abstract
The transverse magnetic susceptibility of a ferromagnetic metal is studied within the framework of the local-density approximation. An expression is derived for the wave-vector- and frequency-dependent susceptibility matrix which does not contain explicit reference to the exchange-correlation potential. This result leads to an explicit formula for the spin-wave stiffness, which is evaluated for nickel. Keywords
