Abstract
A nonet coupling ansatz which requires zero couplings for the nonstrange baryons to the and mesons is investigated in the framework of a Regge-pole model for forward elastic scattering amplitudes at high energy. The analysis indicates that total cross sections are roughly consistent with the ansatz.
