Abstract
Using a streptomycin-dependent strain of Escherichia coli, the authors demonstrated that the number of spontaneous mutations to the streptomycin-independent variety was increased 1.5-2.4 times by treatment for 16 hours with 6-10 atmospheres of oxygen. The mutagenic effect of high pressures of oxygen is comparable to that caused by radiation. Keywords
