Abstract
SINCE the first report by Aycock,1 in 1941, of an increased incidence of poliomyelitis in pregnancy, numerous articles on this subject have been presented. Previously, poliomyelitis as a complication of pregnancy was apparently rare. Aycock reported only 28 cases from a review of the literature and added 28 from his own experience. He estimated the expectancy of paralytic poliomyelitis as less than 1 out of 1000 cases of poliomyelitis and less than 1 out of 50,000 pregnancies.
