Abstract
The chemical shift of the Sn x ray has been measured in the pairs Sn-SnO, SnO-Sn, and Sn-Sn using a curved-crystal Cauchois spectrometer. Comparison of the observed shifts with the Mössbauer isomer shifts brings out the essential role played by the electron density in the chemical shifts.
