Chemical Shift of theKα1X Ray of Tin in its Oxides

The chemical shift of the Sn $K{\alpha }_1$ x ray has been measured in the pairs Sn-SnO, SnO-Sn${\mathrm{O}}_2$, and Sn-Sn${\mathrm{O}}_2$ using a curved-crystal Cauchois spectrometer. Comparison of the observed shifts with the Mössbauer isomer shifts brings out the essential role played by the $5p$ electron density in the chemical shifts.
