Abstract
A fundamental error in the application of the confidence ellipse concept to the estimation of location error is demonstrated. The change in procedure required to be statistically sound and to achieve agreement with observations is explained and illustrated. The resultant procedure is then applied to the estimation of the network detection capability on a world-wide basis of the WWSSN.Keywords
