Abstract
It has been shown that cyclization of a nitrile rubber produces a brittle surface layer. Microcracks develop when the rubber is flexed and, when stressed, severely deform the underlying rubber into an open, fibrous network. These microcracks offer easy penetration and interlocking of the adhesive into the rubber. Evidence was also presented for entrapment of electrolyte solution in the cyclized layer. Keywords
