Abstract
Continuing progress towards automation of cervical cancer screening requires that criteria for clinical acceptability of automated systems be defined, and that methods be devised for effectively evaluating new technology. The potential roles of automation in cervical cancer detection, performance requirements, instrument evaluation and useful contributions from tuberculosis screening, automated white blood cell differential counting, signal detection theory and decision theory are discussed. Keywords
