Abstract
It has been generally held that one of the main causes of the hypopituitary syndrome is chromophobe hypophyseal adenoma. Histologic examination of tumor tissue in 10 cases diagnosed as chromophobe hypophyseal adenoma showed that 8 of the tumors were ependymal gliomas. The author considers that ependy- momas, arising from the neurohypophysis or hypophysial stalk, are a more frequent cause of the hypopituitary syndrome than is generally recognized. Keywords
