A New Type of Ganglioside

Abstract
Three unusual gangliosides were isolated from frog fat body, and their structures were characterized. The carbohydrate structures were elucidated by determination of the molar ratio of the individual monosaccharides, methylation analysis, galactosidase treatment, and chromium trioxide oxidation studies. The following novel structures are proposed: Galα1⇀3Galβ1⇀3GalNAcβ1⇀4Gal(3->2αNeuAc)β1⇀4Glcβ1⇀1Cer; Galβ1⇀3Galα1⇀3GalNAcβ1⇀4Gal(3->2αNeuAc)β1⇀4Glcβ1⇀1Cer; Galα1⇀3Galβ1⇀3Galα1⇀3Galβ1⇀3GalNAcβ1⇀4Gal(3->2αNeuAc)β1⇀4Glcβ1⇀1Cer
