Abstract
The seasonal variation in visibilities at Salt Lake airport, all causes considered, is presented. A typical example of winter weather is investigated to show the behavior of local smoke which is the predominate cause of restricted visibilities. The relationship between movement of smoke over the field and the local drainage winds is brought out by this example and certain conclusions are arrived at which are useful in forecasting the phenomenon. Brief comment is made regarding other causes of low visibilities. Keywords
