Abstract
A method is described for preparing the tetra‐, tri‐ and di‐iodides of titanium in a pure condition. The tri‐iodide, when heated above 350° C in a high vacuum, decomposes according to the equation magnified image The di‐iodide, when heated above 480° C in a high vacuum, decomposes according to the equation magnified image while at the same time part of it evaporates without decomposing. The gas phase in equilibrium with the solid di‐iodide therefore consists of a mixture of TiI4 and TiI2.Several other properties of iodides are also described.
