Abstract
The proposed sequence of morphological changes developing in skeletal muscular atrophy In patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis can be summarized as follows . myofilamentous disorganization and dissolution, subsarcolemmal mitochondrial hyper-plasia and interfllamentous mitochondrial hypertrophy, fragmentation of Z lines, decrease In fiber size and characteristic sawtoothing of the sarcolemma, mitochondrial Involution In the late stages of the atrophic process coinciding presumably with a decreased metabolic activity of the muscle and no apparent increased lysosomal activity or phagocytosis. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
