Capillary Electrophoretic Separation of Nitrosamines Using Combined Open-Tubular and Packed Capillary Columns

Abstract
The use of a modified column to improve selectivity for capillary electrophoresis (CE) is demonstrated. The column used in this work is similar to the usual open-tubular capillary column used in most CE applications except that the injection end of the capillary is joined to a section of teflon tubing that is packed with stationary phase. The system is used for the separation of polar nitrosamines, and the results are compared with those obtained by conventional CE. The effects of composition and different types of packing materials, as well as the sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) concentration, on the separation and migration times of the nitrosamines are investigated.
