Abstract
We observed 14 cases of tumors of the testis during the period of 10 years from January 1, 1955 to April 30, 1964. A statistical study was made on these 14 cases in addition to the materials of testicular tumors reported to us from main medical facilities in our country. The results obtained are as follows. As to our cases;1. incidence: 0.25% (14 out of 5, 537 male patients).2. Side of affection: 6 cases on right side, 7 cases on left side and a case on both sides. The only case seen on both sides was seminoma, first on the left side and later on the right, 5 months after the left orchiectomy.3. Histopathology: seminoma in 10 cases and sarcoma, embryonal carcinoma, embryonal carcinoma with seminoma, and teratoma respectively in one case.4. Treatment: All the 14 cases were treated with orchiectomy and radiationtherapy.5. Further course: The course is unknown in 2 cases, 2 cases died 12 and 8 months respectively after orchiectomy and the remaining 10 cases are still alive.Out of the whole reports from main medical facilities in out country, 464 cases contained histopathological diagnosis, and the statistics are as follows.1. Incidence of malignant tumors of testis: 0.18% (374 cases among 20, 257 male patients). The age of those cases ranged from 5 months to 85 years.2. Affected sides of 450 cases of testicular tumors: 238 cases (52.9%) on right side, 199 cases (44.2%) on left side and 13 cases on both sides.3. Number of cases of cryptorchidism: 25 (5.4%) out of the 464 reported cases.4. Histological statistics of 464 cases: seminoma in 273 cases (58.8%), embryonal carcinoma in 76 cases (16.3%), teratoma in 49 cases (10.5%).5. Treatment: 205 patients (44.1%) treated with orchiectomy and radiation therapy, 103 patients (22.2%) with orchiectomy, lymphadenectomy and irradiation, 86 patients (18.5%) merely with orchiectomy.6. Course: Though inaccurate because of incomplete description as to life or death, 41 patients (22.6%) out of 181 cases of seminoma, 9 patients (19.1%) out of 47 cases of embryonal carcinoma and a patient (2.9%) out of 34 cases of teratoma were found still alive for more than five years. As a whole, 55 patients (17.7%) out of 310 cases seemed surviving longer than five years. Keywords
