Abstract
A method has been developed of measuring atmospheric NO2 using the Dobson spectrophotometer. The intensifies of wavelengths λ4377 and 4448, which have strong differential absorption by NO2, are measured by suitably changing the inclination of the Q-quartz plates to the direction of the light ray. Using appropriate absorption coefficients of N02, an average NO2 mixing ratio was obtained which is of the order of 10minus9 for Aspendale. The errors and the uncertainties involved in the method are discussed. It is believed that the method is useful in determining the average background value of NO2 in spite of the uncertainties involved which could approach 100%.Keywords
