Abstract
Summary: The three forms of herpetic encephalitis have been outlined and particular stress has been laid on herpes simplex encephalitis, which accounts for a large percentage of cases showing necrotizing encephalitis. The possible application of antiviral drugs such as idoxuridine in the treatment of this disease has been mentioned. A case of herpes B encephalitis contracted from a monkey bite has been described, and care in the handling of monkeys has been stressed. Keywords
