Abstract
In this paper, Richard Bagnall‐Senior Lecturer in Adult Education at the University of New England, Australia ‐argues that we should change our perception of educational distance from one that is based on education as an essentially dependent process to one that is based on education as an ideally autonomous activity. Such a change would reveal the greater diversity and pervasiveness of educational distance in all types of education.
