Abstract
In this paper we calculate the conductance of weakly disordered small wires (with their lengths L much larger than the typical width) by a direct numerical evaluation of the Kubo formula within the Anderson model. We confirm a number of previous results for the conductance fluctuations in mesoscopic systems including ergodicity, the behavior of the conductance-fluctuation correlation function, and the size independence of the conductance fluctuations for L<, where is the inelastic scattering length. For L> we find that the conductance fluctuations scale as (/L in agreement with recent experimental data.
