Abstract
Husk is detached by a short boiling treatment with alkaline hypochlorite. Results for barley are lower than by the sulphuric acid method and for oats are higher than by manual removal. In both cases, the new method gives results which correlate well with those of the old methods; this is particularly the case for barley for which the hypochlorite method probably gives the more accurate estimate.
