PLASMA GASTRIN IN THE FETAL AND NEONATAL LAMB, AND THE PREGNANT AND LACTATING EWE

Abstract
Plasma gastrin was measured in 12 Merino ewes and 35 lambs from 90 days gestation until 22 days postpartum. A significant linear increase in fetal gastrin during gestation reached a peak in the neonate 24 h after birth. Gastrin infusion into ewes caused a significant rise in gastrin concentration in maternal but not fetal circulation. Key words: Gastrin, sheep, fetus, neonate, ewe
