Abstract
Phenols are easily nitrated at room temperature, with good selectivity, by dilute nitric acid or metallic nitrates, in an acidic two-phase system, even without phase transfert catalyst. The results, in these experimental conditions, suggest an electron transfer mechanism for this reaction. Keywords
