Abstract
In 4 experiments, as previously observed, the 1st effect of parathormone injection in 2 patients with hypoparathyroidism was an immediate outpouring of P in the urine and a fall of serum P. By taking blood specimens at very short intervals it was found that the fall in serum P preceded the rise in serum Ca. The hypothesis that the parathyroid hormone affects primarily the P metabolism is thereby strongly supported. By direct ultrafiltration experiments the serum P was shown to be 97 to 100% filtrable before parathormone was given. To explain the initial P diuresis, it may be suggested that parathormone lowers the renal threshold for P.This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
