REPORT OF AN OUTBREAK OF Q FEVER AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH. I. CLINICAL FEATURES

Abstract
45 of 47 cases of laboratory acquired Q fever at the N.I.H. were studied clinically. Pueumonitis was found in only 13 cases and in many was easily found by physical signs. Bloody sputum was observed in 5 patients. Mild cases occurred. Italian Q antigen in the complement-fixation test was found to be more sensitive and accurate than the American antigen in confirmation of the. diagnosis. Penicillin, sulfadiazine, and immune blood transfusions had no definite effect on the course of the disease.
