THERMAL STRESSES AT AN INSULATED CIRCULAR HOLE NEAR THE EDGE OF AN INSULATED PLATE UNDER UNIFORM HEAT FLOW

Abstract
Uniform heat flow parallel to the edge of a semi-infinite plate (plane stress) or slab (plane strain) is disturbed when an insulated hole is introduced. The local intensification of temperature gives rise to thermal stress. This linear thermoelastic problem is solved by reducing the problem to one of boundary loading. Stress formulae are obtained in closed form.
