Abstract
An experimental study of the growth and the magnetic properties of pure and doped synthetic single crystals of hematite has been made. Crystals doped with Ga3+, Al3+, and Ti4+ ions were grown in addition to the pure ones and the crystal growth procedure is described. The effects of impurity substitution on the low-temperature magnetic transition were determined by neutron diffraction measurements and the results are reported. The data are compared with the work of other investigators on natural single crystals, synthetic powders and geological specimens.Keywords
