Abstract
The lattice-mode region of the Raman spectrum of polycrystalline s-triazine has been measured over a wide range of temperatures above and below the ferroelastic phase transition at 198 K. The spectra were recorded at a higher resolution and using narrower temperature intervals than in previous studies, particularly in the vicinity of the phase transition. The improved data, together with the use of a deconvolution routine to analyse overlapping bands, provide a detailed picture of the changes that occur in the lattice bands as the transition proceeds. The results are found to be in good agreement with a model of the phase transition developed by Rae (1982).Keywords
