Effect of Orientation on Strength of a Model Solid

Abstract
A mathematical analysis is given to describe the effect of orientation on the variation of the mechanical strength of a model solid. For the simple state of uniaxial orientation the fracture strength in the direction of orientation is evaluated as a function of the degree of orientation in terms of the orientation strain and the strength of the unoriented solid. Assuming the fracture strain remains constant, the maximum fracture strength obtainable for a perfectly oriented solid is found to be six times that of the solid without preferred orientation.This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
