Abstract
Three types of Feulgen positive genetic cytoplasmic particles which occur in various strains of Paramecium aurelia were shown to be antigenic. The pattern of serologic cross-reactions suggests a parallelism between the evolution of the particles and the strains of paramecia in which the particles are found. Although alterations in the biologic activities of the particles are usually independent of marked changes in antigenic specificity, two exceptions to this are noted. The significance of these studies for future investigations of the reproduction and activities of these particles is discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
