Abstract
Diphtheria toxin catalyzes the ADP-ribosylation of archaebacterial elongation factors [EF]. These factors must be assigned to the EF2 type. The ADP-ribosylatable structure arising so early in evolution is of fundamental importance for the elongation process.Keywords
