Abstract
A sp. of Amanita very similar to A. phalloides found in the fall of 1959 in Ashland, Oregon, is briefly described. Material of the Amanita was examined chromatographically for Amanita toxins. Two violet spots were obtained with Rf values of 0.16 and 0.06, the former corresponding to reported Rf values (0.17) obtained for [beta]-amanitin. [alpha]-Amanitin, however, was not demonstrated. A. brunnescens was similarly tested chromatographically and negative results were obtained. According to A. H. Smith, this Oregon Amanita cannot as yet be referred with certainty to A. phalloides. The identity of this mushroom is thus not certain, but it is deadly toxic, and is not A. brunnescens. This is the 1st report of a "deadly" Amanita in the Pacific Northwest. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
